The Whitefish Bay Garden Club cultivates community gardens, supports environmental stewardship, and brings neighbors together through hands-on action and a shared love of gardens.
Who We Are:
The Whitefish Bay Garden Club is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit rooted in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin. Our mission is to stimulate an interest in and knowledge of horticulture and the development of gardens, to aid in the protection of natural surroundings, and to promote and participate in civic beautification. We welcome you to join us at one of our upcoming events. We host meetings with speakers that are open to the public, weedouts at our community gardens, a book club, and other events!

I love that the club represents a great diversity of interests related to gardening and is inclusive and welcoming. I have formed many friendships with people who inspire me! We have always been involved in environmental and community initiatives and our newest committee is the Environmental Awareness Committee, which has included a book club and promoting what we can do in our own yards to help the planet, especially planting natives and reducing turf grass and the use of pesticides. I am so proud of the many things the club has done since our founding and I am so excited about what we'll do moving forward!
Cara Raymond
I love getting to know, gardening, and socializing with other gardeners in the community. We host free talks on gardening topics at most of our monthly meetings and a nature-themed Book Club that meets 3 times a year; both are open to the public and at the WFB Public Library. I am most proud that the club created and maintains WI native species gardens at Silver Spring Park, Klode Park, and Cahill Park, which beautify the community and provide habitats for butterflies, insects, and birds, as well as flood and erosion prevention.

I love being part of a vibrant group, learning how we can support the environment in our own yards and in our community, and working together to create spaces that are rich resources for humans, birds, and insects. Whether you have a small patio or an acre, it all adds up to benefit nature. Whether you are a beginning gardener or a master gardener, you will gain from joining this group.

I love that the garden club believes in and supports my passion for native gardening. We are actively providing and promoting ideal habitats for pollinators, birds, and other animals – and for us! And I get to work in the beautiful gardens that we created for everyone to enjoy.

I love the garden club because of the wonderful friendships I’ve made with like-minded people who care about the planet we live on. The knowledge and expertise I have gained over the years has truly helped me manage my own small space as well as help others by sharing all the information I’ve gained. Many people don't understand the full scope of our activities, the programs we support, and our community outreach. We have developed and manage 4 community gardens, our monthly meetings feature educational topics, we donate money to community groups that support our mission, we share all different types of gardens with the public during our Garden Walks, we have done activities with kids at our local schools, and so much more!

Over the last decade, I've cherished the relationships I have made with fellow members. As a younger member, I've also received so much support – both parenting and gardening tips! The Garden Club is not just about gardening. I love the deep history of the club (one of our members founded River Edge Nature Center). I love the passion, love, and care we give to our community gardens.

You don't have to be a gardening expert to be in the club. You just need to be curious and interested in learning about the natural world around us. So many of our members are passionate environmentalists, and that informs the speakers we host and the projects we undertake. We grow gardens, yes, and we also grow our own level of understanding of the natural world. And we build friendships along the way.

I joined the club many years ago to have a guaranteed monthly respite from my children for a couple of hours each month. Since then, I've become captivated by learning about our environment and the Garden Club has grown to reflect the environmental needs of our community. We try to educate ourselves and the community on best practices for the treatment of our home gardens and public spaces for the benefit of humans and nature. I love meeting wonderful people, many of whom have become life-long friends and having fun together while doing good and celebrating the beauty of our surroundings!
