The White\ufb01sh Bay Garden Club rescued a butter\ufb02y\u00a0garden next to the playground area in Cahill Square Park. This garden,\u00a0which was created\u00a0many years ago by a group of elementary school parents, had since been neglected after their children moved on, and was\u00a0threatened with being\u00a0plowed under by the Village. The\u00a0Club redeveloped this garden to\u00a0create\u00a0an educational\u00a0space for children and adults to\u00a0appreciate and learn about butter\ufb02y gardens. The garden boasts over 40 varieties of butterfly friendly plants, including native perennials, cultivars, and annuals, all clearly labeled using all-weather plant markers. Designed for all seasons, plants include early spring flowers such as Solomon\u2019s Seal and Mayapple, to late summer and fall bloomers, such as Cup flower, Rudbeckia, and Asters. Shallow vessels to hold water and rocks and stones to provide a warm landing place for the butterflies are also part of the design. These aren\u2019t just any rocks and stones. Most of them are \u201cCelebration Stones\u201d. A fundraiser for the Garden Club, Celebration Stones are purchased, custom engraved, and placed in our community or home gardens to commemorate loved ones who have passed, honor a special group or person, or simply inspire! The garden has become a welcoming habitat for many species of butterflies, including the endangered Monarch. With so many plant varieties to choose from, we hope to motivate residents to create their own butterfly habitats at home. We are \u201cGrowing a Greener Village, One Garden at a Time!\u201d
